Darchidze Castle, Gogolauri Castle is a fortress in Darchidze village of Shuakhevi municipality, located at the head of Maretishkali gorge. The local population calls the place where the monument is built Gogolauri district, from which the second name of the fortress is derived.
From the beginning, the castle controlled the road that passed through the valley and connected to the central road in the vicinity of Shuakhevi to the Achariskali basin. He also supervised the road from Samtskhe-Javakheti and Upper Adjara to the foothills of Khikhani, Sarichair and Chirukh, which led to Artanuj through Imerkhev-Shavsheti. Tsikhesimagre was included in the chain of the unified defense system of Adjara-Shavsheti and Klarjeti.
The building is built on a rocky rock pushed forward towards the valley. The castle has an elongated trapezoidal shape according to the relief and is inclined from the southwest to the northeast. The walls of the fence are more or less preserved on all four sides. The western and northern walls are better protected.
