The statue of Ali and Nino, which has become synonymous with the city, is located in a unique place on Georgia’s Black Sea coast - Batumi Boulevard. It is a moving sculpture which immediately captures visitors’ attention.
The monument is eight meters tall. The sculptures of man and woman made of steel tubes spin around and meet together in slow motion, eventually parting from each other, returning to a starting point, and so on infinitely. The process repeats every 10 minutes, and against a fiery sunset, you can enjoy a picturesque, impressive and unforgettable scene.
The statue of Ali and Nino, apart from the infinity of life, represents aspiration towards real love and harmony.
This popular monument is the original work of the famous Georgian artist and sculptor - Tamar Kvesitadzе, who created it with Paata Sanaia in 2010.
Its title is also worth some attention. Initially, the author intended to name it -Love or Adam and Eve, but later, she came up with Ali and Nino. Ali and Nino is a novel named after its protagonists written by a famous Azerbaijani writer, Kurban Said. This beautiful novel is about Azerbaijani Muslim boy Ali Shirvanshir and Georgian Christian aristocrat Nino Kipiani's tragic love story. The events take place in the Caucasus during the First World War.
For visitors, “Ali and Nino” represent the symbol of immortal, unspoiled, and tender love. The statue is especially eye-catching at night time, against special lighting.
