Chikuneti Fortess

Chikuneti Castle is located in Adjara, Khelvachauri municipality, on the road to Chikuneti village.
Today, only the ruins of the castle and a very long, 32-meter long tunnel remain.

The fortress controlled the road of military strategic and economic importance passing through the Machakhli valley from above.

Various types of buildings have been discovered on the territory of the castle. A few years ago, a cellar was accidentally found on the slope near the castle, where 8 pitchers of different sizes were located. Both the castle and the cellar date back to the  XI-XIII century.
