Ilia Chavchavadze Museum

Ilia Chavchavadze Museum of Batumi is located in Adjara, Batumi, at number 5 Griboedov Street. The museum presents photographs and documentary materials related to the life and work of the famous Georgian writer and public figure Ilia Chavchavadze, as well as paintings and sculptures, as well as objects depicting his existence and ethnography. Ilia Chavchavadze (1837-1907) is an important figure in the cultural, educational and political life of Georgia. He was the leader of the national liberation movement of Georgia and worked to raise the moral values and self-awareness of the society. He founded the progressive periodical "Iveria", which was one of the main centers of the national, spiritual and intellectual life of Georgia for three decades. Ilia Chavchavadze was killed on August 28, 1907. Vazha-Pshavela wrote: "If Ilya's killers could, they would kill Georgia." The Orthodox Church of Georgia canonized Ilia Chavchavadze as a saint, with the name - St. Ilia the Righteous.
