The fortress dates back to the 11th–13th centuries. It has held strategic importance since ancient times, offering clear views of the Skhaltistsqali River valley, the Arsiani and Shavsheti mountains, and the villages nestled along the mountainsides. The fortress is located in the Khulo Municipality, west of the village of Khikhadziri. Its destruction is directly linked to the period of Ottoman invasions. Remains of a small church were discovered in the northeastern corner of the structure; findings indicate that its interior was once decorated with frescoes, and fragments bearing traces of *Asomtavruli* script have been preserved. A wine cellar containing eight *kvevri* (traditional clay wine vessels) was also discovered at the site.
