The bridge dates back to the 9th-11th centuries. Dandalo Bridge is distinguished by its thin arch and refined proportions. It was built on a bed of cut volcanic rock. The bridge’s carriageway is covered with uneven stones. The piers are built on the rock. The right pier is built on the rock, while the left pier is cut into the water to reduce the span. The construction used the stone of the arch on both sides of the bridge, between which are uneven stones and lime mortar. The height of the bridge is 7.6 m above the water level. Over the centuries, two rows of stone masonry have been added to the surface to strengthen and repair the wood, completely different from the original in size, shape, and arrangement of stones. Such alterations and repairs somehow alter the original appearance of the wood and make the structures heavier. Building such bridges is more difficult in terms of construction techniques, as the loads are distributed unevenly.
