The lake is located within Kintrishi National Park, at an altitude of 2,232 meters above sea level. The hiking trail from Khino to the lake is 14 km long. The lake's maximum depth is 8–10 meters.
According to local folklore, the lake—situated within the Kintrishi protected area—was historically known as "Sea-Viewer" (*Zghvis Mosatsqveteli*). The Black Sea coast is clearly visible from this spot, and locals say this is precisely why their ancestors gave it that name. Upon closer inspection, the lake is heart-shaped, making the view even more captivating. There are also many interesting legends associated with the lake. Lake Tbiqeli is also notable for being home to the Caucasian newt—a tailed amphibian species listed in the Red Data Book.
